At Universus Physical Therapy we love to help people in their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and above, get back to living the life they deserve. Which means a life free from painkillers, where you don’t have to worry about bothering the doctor, and can do and enjoy all of the things you love, without the fear of pain holding you back.

When something like chronic pain strikes in your knee, lower-back, neck or shoulders, or if you experience an injury from sport or exercise - we know it’s very tempting to leave it and hope it’ll simply “go away on its own” with time and rest… That you’ll wake up someday and like “magic”, it’ll be as if it never happened in the first place - but that’s usually not the case, and often the pain ends up worse than it was when it first started.

  • Thought the pain would go away on its own - but it didn’t.
  • Paid several visits to the Doctor, only to be told to “rest” and “take some painkillers” - then weeks later go back to see the Doctor again, only to be prescribed MORE rest, and an even stronger dose of painkillers.
  • Been put on a month-long waiting list after being referred to see a generalist physical therapist; then after waiting so long to be seen, were given a sheet of exercises, passed off to an aide and/or left alone to perform the exercises which did nothing to ease the pain quickly, if at all (some have even reported injuring themselves in this type of a setting)

  • Went for their 6 week postpartum check up and were told, you are fine to run and exercise, only to find out that you cannot do so without losing urine!

Universus Physical Therapy was founded by Dr. Shaden Ghattas, PT - a former All-American athlete, women’s health specialist, specialist in orthopedics and an expert in spinal manipulation, posture and biomechanics. She has extensive knowledge in the field of manual therapy and manipulation through continuing education from all around the U.S. She received her doctoral degree from Stony Brook University over 15 years ago and continues to teach anatomy/physiology as well as orthopedics and is frequently invited to speak about back pain in her community.

She is highly sought after as the practitioner of choice in finding the ROOT CAUSE of a person’s pain. She is also a yoga practitioner for 20+ years and is very passionate about developing home yoga programs to facilitate self-healing and recovery of chronic injuries. Dr. Ghattas also serves as a consultant for her clients on nutrition, managing stress through meditation and other means; and how to use supplements such as CBD and others.
