Menopause Physical Therapy in Huntington
Menopause brings real changes to muscles, bones, and joints. Physical therapy gives you a clear, practical plan for staying strong and moving well through it.
How can physical therapy help during menopause?
As hormone levels shift during menopause, many women notice changes in how their body feels and moves. Muscles can lose strength more easily, bones can lose density, joints may feel stiffer, and the pelvic floor can change too. These shifts are common, and they are not something you simply have to put up with.
Physical therapy looks at how your body is moving today and builds a plan around what you need. Sessions are one-on-one and can include strength training, pelvic floor work, mobility exercises, posture work, and guidance on staying active safely. The aim is to help you understand what is changing and give you practical tools to keep doing the things you enjoy.
Where physical therapy can help.
Every woman's experience of menopause is different. These are some of the areas we commonly work on together.
Pelvic floor changes
Lower estrogen can affect the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding tissue. Pelvic floor therapy works on strength, coordination, and relaxation to support bladder control and comfort.
Bone health and strength
Bone density can decline after menopause. Progressive strength and weight-bearing exercise, done with good technique, is one way to support bone and muscle health.
Joint pain and stiffness
Many women notice achier, stiffer joints during this stage. Hands-on care, mobility work, and strengthening the muscles around a joint can help it move more comfortably.
Posture
Changes in strength and bone health can affect how you stand and sit. Posture and upper-back strengthening work helps you stay upright and move with less strain.
Staying active
Whether you walk, run, lift, garden, or chase grandkids, we help you keep moving with a plan that fits your body and your routine.
What to expect in a session.
Every program is built one-on-one around your evaluation. Here is how a typical visit unfolds.
Conversation and evaluation
Your therapist asks about your symptoms, activity, and goals, then looks at strength, mobility, balance, posture, and pelvic floor function where relevant.
A plan built around you
Together you set priorities. Sessions may combine hands-on care, guided exercise, and education about the changes your body is going through.
Progress and home routine
Exercises are adjusted as you get stronger, and you leave with a simple routine to keep up between visits.
Physical therapy works alongside the care you receive from your doctor. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
